What's the Difference Between Delta-8 and Delta-9 THC?

Both delta-8 and delta-9 are double-bond structures that trigger the body's endocannabinoid system to create a sense of euphoria. However, the double bond of delta-8 is located on the 8th carbon atom of the carbon atom chain, while delta-9 is located on the 9th, and the difference in the position of the double bond may be the reason for the different potency of these two THCs. However, more research is needed to gain a better understanding of delta-8 and how this cannabinoid interacts with the body.

The effects and side effects of Delta-8

Delta-8 is psychoactive and produces a high, similar to delta-9 THC, but much less potent. The cannabinoid gives consumers a mild euphoric, blissful and mood-enhancing effect, as well as relief from symptoms such as pain, while also being beneficial for insomnia.

The side effects may include dry mouth, red eyes, hunger, short-term memory, delusions, and anxiety, among others. However, it needs to be pointed out that there are not many studies on delta-8.

Delta-8 and CBD

Delta-8 has more similarities to THC (delta-9) than cannabidiol CBD. The combination of Delta-8 THC and the human endocannabinoid system is more similar to that of delta-9 THC, while CBD is not easy to combine with the endocannabinoid system, so it has no anesthetic effect. Instead, CBD provides certain medical effects. If you're looking for a THC-like high without getting too "over the top," delta-8 might be just right for you. If you don't want to be anesthetized and just want to relieve some symptoms, you can choose CBD products.

Is Delta-8 legal?

Delta-8 is currently in a legal gray area.

Very few state laws currently address delta-8 THC specifically. Most state laws on marijuana use language that only covers marijuana, THC, CBD or delta-9 THC, and 11 other states have laws that make delta-8 illegal. In a proposed regulation, the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) indirectly classified delta-8 THC as a controlled substance, which is a federally illegal substance. However, the regulation has not yet been finalized.

The 2018 Farm Bill defines industrial hemp as “all derivatives, extracts, cannabinoids, isomers, Acids, salts, and salts of isomers.” By this formulation, delta-8 is legal because it does not contain delta-9 THC.

However, some states have not adopted this legal expression, so delta-8 is illegal in those states. In addition, in August 2020, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration issued the "Interim Final Regulation (IFR)" stating: "All synthetic THC still belongs to the first class of controlled substances." delta-8 belongs to the extracted or synthetic tetrahydrocannabinol Hydrocannabinol, therefore, is illegal. The federal legal status of delta-8 remains unclear until October 2021, when the interim regulations are reviewed.

Can consumers mail-order Delta-8?

Whether you can mail order delta-8 depends on the state you live in, delta-8 is not legal in all states, even some states where adult-use marijuana has been legalized. States that cannot mail order delta-8 in the United States include: Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Idaho, Iowa, Mississippi, Montana, Rhode Island, Utah
